HUTH: 2011 FA CUP FINAL EXAMINED
German defender Robert Huth played a prominent role for Stoke City on the way to the 2011 FA Cup final, but he could not stop the defeat to Manchester City in the final. Manchester City saw off Robert Huth and his Stoke City side in the 2011 FA Cup final to win the 2010/11 FA Cup title, which was their first major trophy for several decades. Also, the aforementioned FA Cup title kick-started a trophy-laden era at the Etihad Stadium till date.
Roberto Huth and club skipper Ryan Shawcross were the centre backs who repelled several Manchester City attacks especially in the first half. The Citizens dominated virtually all aspects of the game except the most important one, putting the ball in the back of the net.
Stoke City weredefensive for the most of the first half as they failed to test Joe Hart in the Manchester City goal. The Potters were much better at the restart and they should have taken the lead on 62 minutes with their only shot on target throughout the game when Kewyne Jones raced clear off the pass from left winger Matthew Etherington, but he fired straight at Hart before the ball richocted off the striker and keeper before bobbling off to safety.
Jones and Stoke City would pay dearly for that miss as Manchester City scored twelve minutes later through Yaya Toure who gave Thomas Sorensen in the Potters goal no chance of saving his shot. The result of the game could have been different if Jones scored when he was given the chance to face Hart one-on-one.
Manchester City dominated the game and were deserved winners thanks to their Ivorian import, Yaya Toure.
