HUTH RELISHES LEICESTER EPL TITLE SUCCESS
Former Leicester City defender Robert Huth has provided a fascinating insight into what motivated Claudio Ranieri’s Foxes to complete the greatest ever footballing fairytale.
He revealed how it felt as City went around the country, feeling the support of all football fans, as they closed in on the greatest ever title triumph.
Huth also told Richard Keys and Andy Gray how the taunts of title rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal inspired them to complete the job.
“When I look back on it now there are still so many memories that I had forgotten,” said Huth.
“You just take it in your stride and live game by game and forget what was happening. I think it was yes, (the greatest football fairytale of all time), but we were aware of what was going on. Especially towards the end of the season, everyone apart from Tottenham supporters wanted us to win”.
“You would get stopped in the street and even when you went to away grounds it felt wherever we played it was like a home game”.
A pivotal moment for City, recalls Huth, was the 2-1 defeat at Arsenal when Danny Simpson was sent off and the Gunners scored a last minute winner, sparking huge celebrations and a famous dressing room photo of the victorious Arsenal players.
Huth admitted he had that photo on his phone to use for extra motivation.
Huth was a key leader on and off the pitch and he admitted he felt a weight of responsibility as soon as he arrived at the club the season before when City were bottom of the table.
However, he wasn’t the only leader in the dressing room and he revealed how influential skipper Wes Morgan was.
