Robert Huth is the German international defender, who currently plays in the English Premier League for Stoke City. Over the years, Robert Huth has represented the likes of Chelsea and Middlesbrough. Robert Huth’s career started with the youth team at German club VfB Fortuna Biesdorf, where he spent only one years before moving to Union Berlin in 2000. Then again, he spent only one year with the club before moving to English Premier League side Chelsea in 2001.

He initially joined the youth team of Chelsea before making his professional debut in 2002 against Aston Villa. It was his one and only appearance of the season, but it soon became apparent evident that Robert Huth was being considered as a first-team player by then manager Claudio Ranieri. There were attempts to sign Robert Huth on loan deal by many clubs including Reading, but Huth reiterated his decision to stay in London with Chelsea.

Following the takeover of Roman Abramovich, a number of candidates for the same central defensive position arrived at Chelsea. It limited the opportunities Huth had at the club, which only fuelled speculation regarding a move away from Stamford Bridge. Even a change of the manager in 2004 did not improve the position for Huth. Bayern Munich made a bid for the German defender, which was then rejected by Chelsea. Finally, Huth ran out of patience with Chelsea, and he revealed that he will be moving away from Stamford bridge at the end of the 2005-06 season.

It was later revealed that Middlesbrough would be the next destination for the German, but his plans to move so were hit by his inability to pass the medical. However, it was revealed on the final day of the 2010 August transfer window that Huth had indeed completed a £6 million move to Middlesbrough, believed to have been financed by their sponsorship deal with Betfair. His first season at Middlesbrough, though, was disappointing to say the least, as he struggled with form and injuries. He, however, returned to full-blooded first-team action from the next season, and continued to impress in an otherwise struggling Middlesbrough side.

After Middlesbrough’s relegation from the Premier League in 2009, Huth was linked with a number of clubs across England. However, the much hyped did not come until the 2009 transfer window when Stoke City announced that they had signed the player from Middlesbrough for £5 million. His debut for Stoke came in the match against Sunderland. He scored his first goal against Everton in the same season, while also becoming one of the few players to have completed 100 Premier League appearances.

Since joining Stoke, Huth has become one of the regular first-team players in the Premier League. Huth has also represented the German national team in the under 21 level and in the senior team. His debut for the senior team came in 2004, and he has so far made 19 appearances in total. Huth has won the Premier League twice, while he has also been a runner-up in the FA Cup with Stoke.
